In the past Pissouri village, on the hill, had a fishing jetty a few kilometres away down the hill, known as Pissouri jetty. Now they are two distinct communities, Pissouri village and Pissouri Beach, which has over years grown larger to accommodate tourism. Development of the area has been restricted so that this lovely resort can remain a traditional Cypriot Village and not become a sprawling tourist destination. Pissouri offers some spectacular views of Cyprus and is the perfect holiday destination to forget about the rest of the world.
The beautiful beach lies between white cliffs and offers the best opportunities for swimming, snorkelling and water sports. Three kilometres uphill, you will find the picturesque village. On the old road to Paphos you can find “Petra tou Romiou” (Aphrodite’s Rock). The contrast of the white rock in the bright blue sea is very impressive and according to legend, the goddess Aphrodite who was born out of the sea at that spot. A little further back, there is a fine golf course, and adjoining are some property developments with breathtaking views.
The paved square of Pissouri village is the hub of village life, and surrounding pedestrian areas offer an abundance of tavernas, bars and shops. The village has its own amphitheatre, where brilliant outdoor theatrical and musical performances are staged during the warm summer months.
Pissouri’s great location mean that it is the ideal holiday spot for those that want the tranquillity of a smaller resort but easy access to many of the large tourist attractions and archaeological sites of this beautiful island.
